The Must-Have Shoe Trend of the Year

When we say you can never have enough sneakers, we mean it. Whether you’re going to the gym or to the mall, there’s always room for more. Over the past few years, sneakers have evolved from being downright sporty to fashion-forward, from classic re-releases by Nike and Adidas, to embroidered and embellished sneakers by Gucci. There’s been a sneaker style for any and every one to fall in love with, and it’s become the must-have item of the year.
Adidas started a cult following with the re-lease of the iconic white Stan Smith, and with its massive success they shortly followed with the release of the widely popular and elusive, NMD R1, which was nearly impossible to get your hands on. (Believe me, it was blood, sweat and tears!) These lightweight mesh sneakers have been released in different colorways over the past couple of years, and sells out almost immediately upon release. Have a look at these beauties below, and see which one is your favorite!
Both these colorways were only available in Europe, and after much research we both managed to snag a pair online. Liesl got the NMD R1 in “Salmon”, which is a beautiful dusty pink shade that adds the perfect pop of color to an outfit. I decided on “Talc”, a beige cream color that is more neutral, and literally goes with any outfit.
You’re literally stepping into comfort with its cushion-like soles; it's so soft that you’re almost forgetting that you’re wearing them! The breathable mesh fabric makes these shoes incredibly comfy, and the perfect pair to wear when you go out to run errands or when exploring while traveling abroad. (They made exploring cities in Europe on foot pain-free and enjoyable!)
If you’re considering getting a pair of NMD R1’s, do keep in mind that they run large. Liesl and I both ended up getting them in a UK 5/US 6.5 (we usually wear a US 8), and they fit perfectly. We have found with buying Adidas shoes, that it's better to look at the UK size instead of the US size, for a more accurate guide of the sizing.
