GLOSSIER Balm Dotcom Review | Beauty | A Style Alike

I'll be the first to admit that I'm completely addicted to lip balm, and can't live without it! (Seriously, if I ever went on the show, Survivor, I would choose lip balm over a toothbrush as the one "luxury item" I take could bring along with me.) I've tried and tested quite the variety of lip balms, lip salves, lip lotions and lip potions over the years, until I finally settled on my my beloved Blistex DCT (Daily Conditioning Treatment). I've been repurchasing this one for years, and didn't even bother trying other options. That is, until GLOSSIER released their own lip salve, Balm Dotcom.

I'm a big fan of GLOSSIER (loooove their Milk Jelly Cleanser and AHA, BHA, PHA Solution), so I thought, what the heck, and ordered four out of their six Balm Dotcom lip salves to try out; Birthday, Cherry, Coconut, and the Original Balm Dotcom. (They also have Mint and Rose flavors!) The website describes this product as:

"A hydrating, long-lasting, multipurpose lip balm and skin salve that’s packed with antioxidants and natural emollients to nourish and repair dry, chafed skin. The dense, waxy texture stays in place to seal in moisture wherever it goes."

So, do these lip salves live up to its hype? As a passionate (and somewhat obsessive) lip balm connoisseur, these are my honest thoughts after using Balm Dotcom for a couple of months.

Packaging

Let's start with the packaging. The product comes in a 15ml tube, and can fit easily into a small purse or even a pocket. Personally, I love GLOSSIER's recognizable branding, and appreciate the playful look they went for with Balm Dotcom's packaging. Each flavor is assigned its own color; Cherry is red, Coconut is orange, Birthday is yellow and glittery, and the Original comes in pink with a white cap. I've read online that some people complain that the packaging's writing starts to wear off too quickly, but I've been carrying around a tube in my purse for a month and it's still in perfect condition. It's a squeeze tube, so unfortunately you have to use your fingertips to apply the product on your lips.

Ingredients

GLOSSIER claims that Balm Dotcom is "hypoallergenic, dermatologist tested, paraben free and cruelty free" and the main ingredients are Castor Seed Oil, Beeswax, Cupuacu Fruit Extract and Rice Bran and Rosemary Leaf Extracts. All of these are great, but please know that it also contains petroleum jelly, which I know some people won't like. (Personally, I could do without it.) The texture is waxy, and it feels nourishing on the lips.

Flavors and Colors

Cherry. It smells absolutely delicious, and definitely good enough to eat (which, let's face it, is what eventually happens to the products we place on our lips anyway...) Even though the product itself is red, it only leaves a subtle hint of a sheer, red tint.

Birthday. If you're a fan of pastries (who isn't!?) this will be a winner in your book. (That, or you will just find yourself craving birthday cake all day long!) This flavor is untinted, and leaves a very subtle shimmer.

Coconut. This one is my favorite flavor out of the bunch. It also has no tint, and the smell is absolutely heavenly; I can close my eyes and imagine I'm on a tropical beach.

Original. If you're not a fan of scents and tints, this is the one for you. Just a plain ol' lip salve with no bells and whistles. I found myself reaching for this to wear under my lipstick.

Price and Shipping

GLOSSIER Balm Dotcom comes in at $12 a pop. However, you can buy them in a set of three, which costs $30 (saving you $6.) Currently, GLOSSIER ships to USA, Canada, UK and Ireland, or you can visit the GLOSSIER Showroom in New York City. (Or, you can have someone bring you some to your country!).

Final Thoughts

The Pros. It smells great and it is long-lasting. I also like that it is multi-purposed, so I can apply it on my elbows, nail cuticles, and other dry patches, too. The packaging is pretty, and I feel like I've used A LOT of product already, even though each tube only has a slight dent in them. They will probably last me for quite a while.

The Cons. I can really do without the petroleum jelly being a part of the, otherwise great, ingredient list. You have to use your finger tips to apply this lip salve, so it's probably not the most hygienic situation. I wish they'd expand their list of international shipping countries, like, to Taiwan for example...*wink wink*.
