Facial oils have been taking over the skin care world, and of course we have jumped on the bandwagon and added some of these luxurious oils to our skincare routines. Not entirely sure what to expect (yet having high hopes!) we incorporated this step into our daily routines, and the results were pure MAGIC.
Now, you might not be familiar with facial oils yet, and might even be thinking why in the world would anyone slather their faces in oil, so today we’re giving you a quick introduction to this hype-worthy skincare trend. Below you can find out what a facial oil is, who can use it, when to use it, and also why you need one. Also see the 3 Facial Oils we love and HIGHLY recommend.
What is a facial oil?
It’s your one-way ticket to youthful, glowing and silky-smooth skin!
Who can use a facial oil?
Absolutely everyone! Don’t think that facial oils are only for those with dry skin. Whether you have dry, oily, combination, or acne-prone skin, facial oils can reverse every type of skincare concern, and leave you with the silkiest and smoothest, baby-soft skin.
When do I use a facial oil?
It’s best to incorporate this as a last step in your skin care routine, since oil is the largest molecule and acts as a barrier, it might prevent your other lotions and potions from penetrating into your skin. After applying your toner, serum and moisturizer, add a few drops of oil to your face and gently massage it into the skin. The oil locks in all the moisturizing ingredients from your skincare products, and keeps them from evaporating, therefor making your skincare routine all the more efficient.
Why do I need one?
Whether your skin’s oil production is in overdrive or not, a facial oil can create just the right balance and leave all your oily or dry skincare concerns at bay. Certain ingredients in oils can also treat specific skincare concerns such as acne, redness or sensitivity.
Here are 3 of the facial oils we use and HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Read below to find out what the hype is about, and also find links to where you can purchase each of these cult facial oils.
The cult skincare brand Drunk Elephant put their own spin on this luxurious skincare trend, free of fragrance, chemicals and color. It’s made from Marula oil which is known to cure acne and is great for dry skin. The thicker consistency of this oil makes application feels spa-like, leaving my skin feeling silky-smooth and soft. This oil has dramatically changed my skin tone, making it more even and reducing redness, and also leaving it more plump, radiant and hydrated than before.

My love affair with facial oils started with the first drop of this heavenly facial oil on my skin, and I’ve been obsessed ever since. Herbivore Botanicals Phoenix Oil is a fragrant blend of botanicals including rose hip and CoQ10, which prevents collagen loss and minimizes fine lines, and also giving skin a decent plump of hydration. Since I started using this facial oil I have not once woken up with skin that’s not glowing and hydrated, and I’m already dreading the day that I run out of this product.

Probably the La Mer of facial oils, Vintner’s Daughter “super-powered serum” is raved about by every beauty blogger out there, but at the high price point, is it worth the hype? If you were hoping I’d say no, I’m sorry, ‘cause it absolutely is! This wonder potion is made up of 22 plant-derived oils and extracts and delivers optimum nutrition. Liesl has been using this facial oil for well over a year now, so a little goes a loooong way. If you’re in the mood to splurge, buy it because your skin will thank you! It’s an amazing oil which leaves the skin feeling smooth, hydrated and glowing, and has even made those pesky fine lines seem to disappear.
