Even though I rarely eat meat anymore, (and really don't miss it that much), I do still sometimes just get a random craving for some good ol' BBQ (it must be the braai-obsessed South African in me!). Recently, that craving hit SUPER HARD when everyone was celebrating Moon Festival here in Taiwan and I couldn't walk down the street without getting a whiff of barbecued meats that was being prepared and enjoyed by local families, as is customary practice for the Mid-Autumn Festival. Usually we would pop into Baba Kevin's BBQ to satisfy these cravings (or Mighty Quinn's, but they have permanently closed their doors), however we decided to try out this fairly new kid on the block in Nangang District, Bogart's Smokehouse Taipei, which offers authentic American smokehouse BBQ.
Bogart's is barely an 8-minute walk from Nangang MRT station, so it's very convenient to get there. The restaurant is quite spacious and has some cool and quirky decor. There are lots of tables available as you enter, and in the back is where they smoke the meats. (Which they already start preparing veeeery early in the mornings and serve fresh every day!).

Bogart's offers all the smokehouse BBQ treats you would expect, like ribs, pulled pork (and chicken) and beef brisket. Down below you can view their full menu and prices (which we found to be very reasonable for the generous servings!). We each ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich, and four sides to share; the Mac-n-Cheese, Potato Salad, Fire and Ice Pickles and Slaw. Even though they have a nice selection of beers, we just got a Coke and sweet tea this time.

Was it worth the journey out to Nangang? Absolutely! The owner was so friendly and eager to introduce their menu and BBQ offerings. We appreciated his recommendations and that he took the time to chat with us and make us feel so welcome there. We really like the feel of the place; it's comfortable, laid-back and you can only imagine how fantastic it smells in there! (I'm salivating uncontrollably now at just the thought of it, no jokes!)
The food was spectacular! The meat was smoked to perfection, and we were pleasantly surprised by the generous portion sizes of the sandwiches, and also the sides. Don't even get me started on their sauces (which is "on the house" and available at each table). They perfectly compliment the meats, and you can even buy some to take home as well. We can't recommend this place enough! Get a group of friends together and go enjoy their unique and authentic smoked BBQ. I personally can't wait to go back when those BBQ cravings hit me again!
