Having lived in Taipei for almost 8 years, The Husband and I are always on the lookout for a sweet spot to enjoy a romantic date night, but we always seem to find ourselves going back to old favorites. So, having heard raving reviews about Grace Restaurant from our good friend Leslie (@taipeifoodie) and knowing it could be a potential option for those special evenings with loved ones, Liesl and I were super excited to go try out the creative cuisines of this well-known restaurant in Taipei.

Grace Restaurant is tucked away in the vibrant Zhongxiao Dunhua shopping area, and is surrounded by lush green plants creating an oasis-like feel right here in the middle of the city. Inside the restaurant the ceiling is decorated with more leafy greens, and together with the industrial brick walls and dim lighting, it creates a warm and inviting, yet casual ambiance.

Chef Harley Gerlach from Australia is the creative master behind all the modern cuisines at Grace Restaurant, and has worked at five star hotels, french bistros and wineries in both Adelaide and Melbourne. His creativity can be seen in Grace’s inventive menu, which consist of a variety of interesting dishes. They also have an extensive wine list brought together by a certified wine expert, bringing you some of the best wines from Europe and Australia (They also offer a wide selection of these wines by the glass!)

Below you can have a look a Grace Restaurant’s menu, and also their new Lunch Set Menu which can be enjoyed from Fridays to Sundays, and includes a starter, a salad and a main with coffee or tea, at only 900nt.

Grace Restaurant MENU

We started our culinary journey at Grace with light and fluffy (yet crunchy!) deep fried falafel, paired with a smoky yoghurt sauce. The sauce was a refreshing addition to the flavorful falafel and a great combination.

Next we were surprised with another creative combination; potatoes served with onion soubise sauce, seaweed and sea grapes, and a homemade anchovy mayonnaise. Liesl and I both loved the combination of potatoes and seaweed and were surprised at how well these two ingredients complemented each other.

Next we were served with a refreshing and light salad, made from Shandong cabbage, Malabar spinach and red amaranth. This zesty salad is topped with fresh and healthy ingredients such as pan-fried pineapples, cherry radish and grapes, and sprinkled with buckwheat and lentil crackers.

The star of the day (and our main meal), the roasted and pan fried pork chop, was served next. This mouthwatering pork dish was served with a delicious and creamy parsnip puree and a fresh mix of parsley, fennel, wax and green apple, and also cranberries. The portion size is quite big and more than enough for 2 -3 people, but Liesl and I had no shame and finished (almost) the entire dish. We just couldn’t help ourselves, it was too good!

We finished off our gastronomical adventure with an amazing and melt-in-your-mouth, Goats Cheese Pudding. To be honest, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect as cheese and dessert don't usually go together in a sentence, but the combination of the goats cheese cream and caramel pudding with poached pear and winter melon caviar, knocked out all our taste buds. It was smooth and creamy, and had just the right amount of sweetness to it. Along with the pudding, we had a scoop of homemade ice-cream that was the perfect end to our culinary feast at Grace.
