It's been a while since we've visited a proper diner-style restaurant in Taipei, so when we spotted Hype Kitchen 嗨波廚房 on Instagram (with rows of images of saucy burgers, fries, shakes and hot dogs) we immediately made a reservation. Hype Kitchen is a small restaurant just around the corner from Zhongshan Junior High School MRT station, and has a simple menu of classic American diner fare. They have two tables outside (lovely for catching some rays outside and people-watch!) and plenty of bar seating spaces inside that overlooks the kitchen.
They offer a decent selection of hot dogs, burgers and burritos. As sides you can get a salad, onion rings, fries, and chicken wings, and on the dessert section you'll find s'mores and ice cream. We didn't try the shakes (referred to as "smoothies" on the menu) this time, but they look AHHHmazing. They also have some sodas en coffee. I got the "Cheese Dog" and an iced "Black Tea", and Tieneke got the "Hype Classic Burger" and a "Latte". We also decided to get the set combo, so we could each choose a side dish and both opted for classic "Fries". Below you can see their full menu!

We both enjoyed our meals, and the combination of good food and being able to sit outside was just perfect! If you want to secure a table outside, we highly recommend making a reservation or getting there early (when they open at 11:30am). The place filled up quick after we got there on a Saturday morning and in no time people were waiting around to get a seat. The staff were friendly and fast, and we had no trouble making a reservation in English.
We still prefer The Diner as our go-to spot for classic American diner dishes, but would definitely recommend Hype Kitchen if you're in that neighborhood and just HAVE TO have a classic juicy burger and fries on the spot!
