One of my personal favorite lunch spots in Taipei, and the only restaurant that I actually eat at (or order from) weekly, is KGB. This popular burger joint, just off Shida Road, opened in 2008, and is owned by two guys from New Zealand. It's tucked away in a small alley about a 3-minute walk from Taipower Building MRT station's exit 3 (the alley across the street from Wellcome supermarket), and offers a comfortable, welcoming environment for single diners or bigger groups.
They are quite well-known for their huge variety of grass-fed NZ beef and lamb burgers, but also serve fantastic chicken, vegan and vegetarian burgers, brunch options, Acai bowls, crispy fries, fresh salads, milkshakes, brownies, and a decent selection of ciders and other drinks.
I usually go to KGB for lunch one or twice a week, and always get a table without having to make a reservation. (I'm not sure about availability over the weekends, so it's better to call ahead if you want to make sure!). They have lots of tables inside (including a huge shared counter table in the middle of the restaurant), and also two tables outside.
In the past year, they have updated the interiors, and we love the comfy couch-like seating with throw pillows along the side. The vibe is definitely laid-back and there's always some good music playing. We are always greeted warmly by the staff (whom all speak English), and the friendly owners never fail to make us feel super welcome.
Their menu offers a huge selection of burgers, and they frequently add new combinations. My personal favorite is their vegetarian burgers, made with walnut-lentil patties. Even though they use delicious buns for their burgers, you can get a healthier alternative called the "naked burger", which replaces the bun with fresh, crispy lettuce. I'm also a huge fan of their Acai bowls, avocado toast and "Kiwi Brekkie". There really is something for everyone on their menu, making it a great place to bring a group of friends with different dietary needs. Check out their full menu below!

I get their Acai bowl at least once a week, and although it takes a little longer for them to prepare, for me it's totally worth the wait. The fruit is fresh, and the Acai isn't too runny. I love the combination of banana, coconut flakes, dragon fruit, chia seeds, dried fruit, granola and blueberries. (I also add optional yogurt to my bowl.)

We also regularly order the Avocado Toast as a side to share, and once in a while we indulge in the Kiwi Brekkie, which is a sizable breakfast plate of avocado, sausage or bacon, eggs, mushrooms and tomato on sourdough bread. Keep in mind that if you're vegetarian (or at least trying not to eat as much meat) basically everything on their menu is customizable, so don't hesitate to substitute the meat in your dish with something else.
My burger of choice is usually the Swiss Cheese and Mushrooms on the vegetarian patty (you can choose between walnut-lentil or black bean-cashew), and I'm also a huge fan of the Avocado and Aioli. Most people will order a side of fries or a salad, but for me personally the portion is just too big for a lunch time meal. (Although, I do love their crispy fries once in a while! And The Husband regularly gets a Greek salad or soup on the side).

Their portions are generous and we think it's great value for money! (We always have a good experience when dining there.) If the location isn't convenient for you, you can also find them on all the food delivery apps like Foodpanda and UberEats. You can also easily call (02 2363 6015) to make an order and go grab your takeout.
We highly recommend KGB for some of the best burgers in town, and don't hesitate to try the other delicious items on the menu as well!
