Contrary to the name (which might have you thinking this is a complete meat fest!), Meat Up is one of the cutest and pinkest little cafes in Taipei, serving the most adorable and over the top drinks; thus the perfect spot for girls to do as the name otherwise suggests, meet up. Located smack bang in the middle of bustling Ximending, this small cafe is like a breath of fresh air with its flamingo themed and pineapple painted walls, and outrageously messy and sugary freakshakes (I’ll tell you more about that later!)
Meat Up was one of the first cafes in Taipei to start the ever-so-popular, insta-wall trend, and millennial pink walls covered in art has been their signature look ever since they opened their doors a few years ago. The interior is fun and cute (just what the doctor ordered!) and the ambiance is as laid-back as you'd expect in this cool part of town. There are quite a few tables inside and they fill up quite quickly over lunch time on a Saturday afternoon, so make sure you get there early, or reserve a table beforehand if you can. They also offer outdoor seating, providing the perfect place to unwind and do some people-watching in between a fun-filled day in Ximending.
They were originally known for their creative milkshakes and smoothies, but have since added quite a few other yummy items to their menu, and now offers everything from a range of delicious American breakfast options, to customized hamburgers and also some hearty Italian dishes. Liesl and I couldn’t quite decide what to order (we literally wanted everything!), so we ended up getting one of their delicious, customized hamburgers each, for which we could choose our own sauce and also toppings. I decided on having the truffle sauce with bacon and avocado, and Liesl opted for the cheese sauce and avocado and feta. We couldn’t resist getting one of their pretty pink smoothies, and got the Strawberry, Pineapple and Berry smoothie to share, and also one of their popular milkshakes (aka freakshakes); a giant milkshake covered in everything we love, from rainbow cereal to roasted marshmallows and whipped cream (DROOL). Trust me when I say, it was as delicious and mouthwatering as it looks!
