Pai Pai Cannoli | Taipei Pastry Shop

Ever since I spotted Pai Pai Cannoli on Instagram I haven't been able to stop thinking about going over there and trying out their Italian pastries for myself. This cute little photogenic pastry shop (with only two seats available to dine in) is about a 5-minute walk from Zhongshan MRT station, and located on a quiet alley away from the busy shopping area. We assume most people get a pastry to-go, but we wanted to sit at the shop to enjoy our desserts.

So, first of all...what is cannoli, you ask? According to Wikipedia, "Cannoli are Italian pastries that originated on the island of Sicily and are today a staple of Sicilian cuisine. Cannoli consist of tube-shaped shells of fried pastry dough, filled with a sweet, creamy filling usually containing ricotta." Basically, it's a mouthful of sweet, creamy heaven! I mean, sign me up!

At the moment, Pai Pai Cannoli offers four options of cannoli fillings (which you can see below) and also Panna Cotta, coffee and tea. We ordered "Berries Party" containing strawberry, almonds and jam, "Tender Coco", filled with chocolate chips, almonds and Cointreau, and also "Passion Pistachio", which contains homemade pistachio paste, roasted pistachios and almonds. I can officially say that Pai Pai Cannoli is not just a pretty "Insta-worthy" pastry shop! We LOVED the cannoli; the fillings were creamy, sweet, flavorful and unique and the fried pastry dough was crunchy, fresh and perfect. Even though all three fillings we tried were YUMMM, Tieneke said her favorite was the pistachio. If I HAD TO choose, I'd say my favorite was the strawberry one. (And the chocolate one, and the pistachio one!). Just thinking back on it now literally makes my mouth water! You won't regret going out of your way to go try their delicious dessert, it will be totally worth it!
