If you also live far away from home, I’m sure you’re all too familiar with homesickness; especially when missing out on family traditions like a Sunday roast (think meat, potatoes, gravy, vegetables...Le sigh!). Well, we can’t exactly bring you home, but we can bring you a hearty, meaty and ‘home-cooked’ meal at a restaurant right here in Taipei. Let us introduce you to Soupstar The Kitchen 星高湯厨房, your home away from home!
Soupstar The Kitchen 星高湯厨房 is conveniently located a short stroll away from Xinyi Anhe MRT Station, in a quiet street away from the buzzing city. They’ve become quite a popular restaurant, and is known for their variety of roasted dishes, reminiscent of a delicious home-cooked meal. They also serve a range of other light dishes such as salads, soups, hamburgers and sandwiches. But, before we get too excited about the food, let me tell you more about their cool space.
The restaurant welcomes you with their bright white and wood exterior, decorated with leafy greens. Upon entering the restaurant, you'll be greeted with a warm and cozy ambiance, with a modern blend of exposed steel, concrete floors, black hardware and rustic wood. There are quite a few seats available in the restaurant, and you can opt to sit at the long table by the window, on a high chair at the steel bar, or at one of the round wooden tables to the right side of the restaurant (which is more convenient for a group of 3 people or more.) They also have a charming little patio right by the entrance where you can enjoy your meal outside. For larger groups and private events, they have a beautiful space upstairs, and also a large terrace with outdoor seating; this space is available only if reserved ahead of time.
They have quite a variety of meaty mains to choose from, including roasted or pan-fried chicken, beef, pork and also fish. I was feeling quite peckish so decided on having the Roasted Aioli Chicken Breast that is served with potato, creamy rice, yoghurt, soup and your choice of fried or scrambled egg (This is available on their 'Weekend Only' menu), and also treated myself to a delicious and crispy glass of white wine (It was Saturday after all!). Liesl opted for something less meaty and had the Seasonal Salad and also some Chai & Rooibos blend tea. Our dear friend, Ingrid (@ingridc17) of IMWIM SHOP also joined us for lunch and had the Roasted Aioli Chicken Breast as well, but with scrambled egg instead. If you’re feeling a little homesick and craving one of your mom’s hearty (and meaty!) home-cooked meals, Soupstar The Kitchen 星高湯厨房 is the place to go. We really enjoyed our food, as well as the cozy atmosphere and friendly service, and can’t wait to go back and try the rest of their menu. It gets quite busy over the weekend, so reserve a table ahead to secure a seat.
