If you live in the Tianmu area, you’re most probably already familiar with Sprout 初芽; a western style restaurant that serves a range of healthy and delicious food options, such as salads, sandwiches, soups, classic breakfasts, pancakes, and MANY more. (Their menu is quite extensive, and has some great vegetarian and keto options!). This family-friendly restaurant is very popular, especially over weekends for brunch, so make sure you make a reservation well in advance.
The restaurant is divided into two floors, and customers can opt to either sit downstairs where a play area is available for children (Ideal for families!), or upstairs in a modern industrial space, or outside on their lovely balcony if the weather allows. We opted for the latter, of course!
Our dear friend and illustrator, Roelien (Unrouxly Illustration), joined us for an early breakfast here recently, and the three of us treated ourselves to a table filled with delicious breakfast goodies. Roelien opted for a keto-friendly version of the Big Feast breakfast (served without sourdough bread); a plate filled with avocado, halloumi cheese, bacon, grilled tomato, scrambled egg and Dukkah. I ordered the Big Feast as well along with the freshly baked sourdough bread that’s included, and an iced latte for a much-needed 10AM caffeine fix. Liesl started her day with a healthy Fresh Fruit on Pancakes and of course, a latte. The food was absolutely delicious and totally hit the spot, however, our ONLY complaint is that we couldn’t enjoy our meals together as they were served about 10 minutes apart (Us South Africans like to eat together!).
