In the mood for a tasty sweet treat? SWIRLS Bake Shop (originally from Singapore) recently opened an outlet right here in Taipei's Daan District, and I for one am over the moon to have discovered this slice of heaven where I can go to indulge my insatiable sweet tooth. It was literally like finding money! (Mouthwatering, creamy, sugary money!) Lured inside by the colorful cupcakes beckoning me from the window display, we popped inside for "one cupcake", which turned into six cupcakes... Can you blame me?
The space is bright and vibrant, with white marble floors, blue walls and colorful posters. (And it smells like what I imagine heaven to smell like; freshly baked goods!) The owners are just lovely, and we had a nice chat with them about their bakery. You can have your (cup)cake, and eat it too, because there are a couple of tables to sit at inside. Of course, you also have the option of taking them home to enjoy later. The shop itself isn't big, and the space is mostly occupied by its most important purpose; a spacious kitchen where they bake their fresh, gourmet cupcakes daily.
SWIRLS Bake Shop specializes in American gourmet cupcakes, which is surprisingly hard to find in Taipei, hence my utter elation at randomly stumbling upon this unicorn. Like I said, we were planning on trying one cupcake, but that idea quickly flew out the window when we realized they have just too many amazing flavors to choose from and that we wanted them ALL. And what type of people share one cupcake!? (Not the kind of people I want to be!)
On that day, some of the flavors they had available were Red Velvet, Very Vanilla, Salted Caramel, Nutella, Carrot Cake, Cookies & Cream, Mint Chocolate, M&M Chocolate, Bounty, Oh So Cocoa, Nuts About You and Strawberry. According to their website, they have 101 exciting flavors, which they change around every month.

It wasn't easy to choose, but we ended up with Carrot Cake, Strawberry, Red Velvet, Cookies & Cream, Salted Caramel and Nutella. The next tough decision was which one to try first; I went with Strawberry. It was devilishly delicious, and I just had to have another one. The Red Velvet flavor didn't stand a chance, and I savored every saliva-inducing bite of creamy frosting and fluffy cake. Every single cupcake was out of this world, and I thank my lucky stars for bringing this bake shop into my life.
