Afternoon tea at the Mandarin Oriental Taipei? Don't mind if we do! We were recently invited by the kind folk over at The Jade Lounge to come and enjoy their famous afternoon tea, and of course agreed immediately. The Jade Lounge is located on the first floor of the majestic Mandarin Oriental hotel in Taipei's Songshan District, and it's every bit as luxurious as you can expect from a 5-star establishment.
The lounge is bigger than what I had expected, but it still feels intimate and elegant. With its high ceilings, lush carpets and curtains, sparkling chandeliers, well-dressed patrons and stylish design, you'd think the vibe would be too snobbish, but that wasn't the feel of the place at all. Although very sophisticated, it definitely wasn't "stuck-up" in the least bit. We were greeted by the extremely professional and kind hosts, and felt welcome and taken care off right from the start.

The Jade Lounge offers two time slots for afternoon tea daily; you can either join from 1PM to 3PM or from 3PM to 5PM. I wouldn't say a reservation is absolutely essential, but it never hurts to call ahead and confirm you'll be able to get a table. There is seating for pairs to larger groups (I'd guess around 6 to 8 people can sit at the biggest table, and maybe they can even accommodate bigger parties).
There are three afternoon tea sets to choose from; The Classic, The Sparkling and The Luxury, and their prices range from 1350nt to 3950nt (+10% service charge). You can view their current menu below which describes what's included in each set. We got The Sparkling (although Tieneke obviously didn't have champagne), and it was the perfect amount tor two people to share. We also each enjoyed a latte.
The host told us that their talented and experienced pasty chef, Yam Lok Hin, actually changes the menu every couple of months, so you'll be able to enjoy new pastries every time you go. Their most current afternoon tea menu can always be found here.

The Sparkling afternoon tea set

The Sparkling afternoon tea set includes a lovely selection of sweet and savory bites. We started with the savory options after the lovely server took the time to tell us about each pastry and their creative combinations. of ingredients. Of course I can't remember ANY of the descriptions (bad blogger!) because I was extremely.jet lagged (and probably a little tipsy from the DELICIOUS champagne...). I do remember that each bite was exquisite, full of flavor and had us oohing and aahing with pleasure from start to finish.

Afternoon tea at the Mandarin Oriental Taipei's The Jade Lounge is every bit as luxurious as you would imagine. The setting, the service and the pastries are top-notch and worthy of its rave reviews. We highly recommend afternoon tea here to celebrate a special occasion, as you'll feel like an absolute queen sipping your champagne and savoring each of the absolutely delicious and inventive pastries.
