When it comes to imported food products and brands, I've definitely noticed that the local supermarkets in Taipei have been upping their game in the past few years. Jason's Market Place, City Super and Carrefour (the one in Tianmu, especially!) keeps adding more and more imported brands. Even though their prices can sometimes be outrageous, compared to those same products back in our home countries, it's nice to know that we have access to "some things from home" when the cravings hit! (I'm looking at you, Grapetizer!).
Of course, it wasn't always like this, and even though these supermarkets are stocking more things from our home countries, there is still one place I absolutely have to go to once in a while to get the goods I can't find anywhere else in Taipei; Willie's Deli (originally called G&G Delicatessen). Willie's Deli has been importing sought-after groceries from Europe, the States (and the rest of the world, basically) for more than 40 years (ever since foreign families and workers started settling in Taipei), and thus is officially the OG imported groceries shop in Taipei.

When you pop into Willie's Deli, you're more than likely to run into the owner himself. Willie is the kindest guy and always up for a chat, especially about the interesting history of the Tianmu area where his store is located. Don't be shy to request products you're looking for, you might just see those things stocked on the shelves in the near future. It will be near impossible for me to list all the products and brands they stock, but I took some photos so that you can browse for yourself. Who knows, you might spot something you've been craving (hello, Pop Tarts!) or searching desperately for (escargot, anyone?). They also have a huge variety of spices, seeds, beans, cheese, meat, cold cuts and wine.

On top of all these imported goodies, Willie's Deli is also famous for their sub sandwiches, which are freshly made in the store's kitchen, and can be enjoyed in-house at one of their comfy tables, or as a takeaway. You can see the full menu and the takeout list below!

Next time you're searching for something specific, and find yourself out of luck at Taipei's supermarkets, definitely go check out the shelves of Willie's Deli, because you're more than likely to find it there. (You can also call to ask if they have specific items in stock!) We highly recommend you to pop in for a browse, you just never know what treasures you might find!
