Paper & Tea 柏林選茶 | Taipei Cafe

I recently discovered Paper & Tea 柏林選茶 on Facebook when it sneaked into my news feed, and they lured me in with photos of their selection of refreshing-looking teas. I learned that this tea room was actually situated inside the same building as Marais 瑪黑家居選物's physical store in Taipei (I was only aware of their beautiful online store at that point). I've always loved browsing their selection of home goods, unique decorative pieces and gifts on the website, so I was excited to have a look around the actual store, and to sit down for some afternoon tea afterwards.
The space housing the showroom and cafe is only a 5-minute walk from Zhongshan MRT station, and just far enough from the bustling and busy shopping area around the station. From the outside, the building definitely gives off an industrial vibe, and it has large windows allowing plenty of light to flow in. They have designed the interior beautifully, with a big open area consisting of shelves and tables for displaying their lifestyle goods, and the cafe area with plenty of tables all along the big windows of the building.
Marais 瑪黑家居選物 is a lifestyle store selling things like candles, cleaning supplies, plates, cutlery, water bottles and other unique gifts. They carry hard-to-find-in-Taipei brands like Tangen GC, Bondi Wash, Izola, Bamford and many more. The store has quite a big selection of interesting goods, but definitely also check out their website where you can even purchase things like furniture and bedding.
Even though the tea room section, Paper & Tea 柏林選茶, offers plenty of seating, it was jam-packed on our recent visit there. We had made a reservation through their online booking system, and we highly recommend you do the same to avoid disappointment. Another thing worth noting is that you get a maximum dining time of 2 hours, and they have a minimum of one drink or meal order per person policy. Even though we were just there for afternoon tea, we were quite impressed with their menu; not only do they have a HUGE selection of iced and hot original, fruity or herbal teas and milk teas, you can also order cake, salad, "Dutch Baby" pancakes, open sandwiches, and a variety of brunch options. We considered ordering their Tea Set For 2, but in the end we each got a refreshing iced tea and shared a Caramel Fig Brioche and Berry Cheesecake. The service was quick and, as you can see from our photos, the presentation and plating of our orders were quite lovely. We gobbled up the mouthwatering cheesecake in a heartbeat, and the iced teas were perfection on a hot and humid Taipei day. (Tieneke enjoyed the Mint Julep iced tea with Grapefruit, and I got the Yerba Mate Lemonade!). The Caramel Fig Brioche took a little longer to be served, but it was worth the wait and we absolutely loved it!
We really enjoyed our time at this unique space, and highly recommend it for an afternoon of browsing unique items (for yourself or as a gift), and a refreshing afternoon tea in the relaxing cafe.
