A Staycation in Taipei @ S Hotel

Is it just me, or does it feel like this year has been dragging on for AGES? Well, I’m pretty much ready to hop on a plane and be taken to a remote tropical island where it’s just me, The Husband, clear turquoise waters and free-flowing Mojitos (Hey, a girl can dream!) Unfortunately we aren't THAT lucky, and still have to wait a few weeks before our summer traveling commences. The S Hotel in Taipei sure had great timing when they invited us for a stay recently, and Liesl and I got to enjoy a mini-vacation right here on our doorstep (aka a STAYCATION!).
For those of you not familiar with the word, a "staycation" is: “a vacation spent at home or near home, doing enjoyable activities or visiting local attractions.” In other words, giving you a much needed break, but without the stress of: 1. Planning 2. Traveling and 3. PACKING! (Oh, who am I kidding?! Liesl and I always have our carry-ons by our side!)
The S Hotel opened about a year ago and was designed by world-renowned French designer and architect, Philippe Starck. It is conveniently located in Songshan District on Dunhua Road, and just a short stroll away from Taipei Arena, furniture store Ikea and well-known German style restaurant, Gordon Biersch (They make some of the best ribs in town!) Further down the road you can also find one of Taipei’s popular shopping malls that is a favorite among locals, the Breeze Center.
The french design elements of this hotel truly takes your breath away and lets you escape the buzzing city life, taking you on an unforgettable getaway. The lobby welcomes you with their warm ambiance, created by brightly colored carpets, dark concrete floors, wood and leather furniture, and floor-to-ceiling bookshelves filled with interesting books (Just waiting for all you bookworms to be devoured!)
The facilities of this hotel are amazing, from a chic restaurant in the lobby serving international cuisines (prepared by a Michelin star trained chef!) to a fashionable bar and cigar lounge where you can enjoy DELICIOUS cocktails made of the highest-quality liquor (Read our full review of the S Restuarant & Bar here!) They have happy hour DAILY between 6pm and 8pm, where it’s “buy 1 get 1” on all standard drinks. Guess where we’ll be hanging out from now on?! They also provide a fully-equipped and super stylish gym overlooking the city, where you can burn off those calories if you enjoyed happy hour a little too much... (Don't worry, we won't tell!) .
Okay, so let me get to the best (and most important!) part; the jawdroppingly beautiful rooms. Ever dreamed of being in an all-white, marble filled room with floor to ceiling mirror-covered doors? Well, the S Hotel just made all our dreams come true! Have a look, ‘cause the pictures speak for themselves!
No, your eyes are not deceiving you. That dreamy bathroom is made of marble ONLY (We can’t even deal!) The rooms are spacious and filled with natural light during the day (perfect for pre-wedding preparations!) and has luxurious amenities such as a Nespresso machine, electrical blinds, an LCD interactive television and top notch Bang & Olufson audio equipment (Did I mention the rose gold tinted door mirrors? Take my money!) Our room also had a large balcony where we enjoyed sundowners while admiring the beautiful city view.
Our stay at the S Hotel ended on a (very!) high note, with a champagne breakfast being served in our room the next day, on one of Philippe Starck's timeless and fascinating dining tables. We had a traditional American breakfast FEAST, enough food to feed an entire family! We tried our best... (luckily The Husbands were there to help!)
The S Hotel is truly a one-of-kind hotel in Taipei, and an experience not to be missed. The french design elements and food creations will take you on a journey to the City of Love, and makes for the perfect, unforgettable staycation right here in Taipei.
