Liquid Bread Co. Taipei

Ever since Liquid Bread Co. opened, everyone and their poodle have been telling us to go and try out the sandwiches there. I do love me a big juicy sandwich, so Tieneke and I decided to go and see what all the fuss was about. It is conveniently located a 5-minute walk from Xinyi Anhe MRT station, and sits in a quiet alley off of Guangfu Road. We arrived there right when they opened at 11:00, and it didn't take long for the space to be packed with other hungry folk.

The space offers two big tables that can easily sit six to eight people, and also seating at the window and against one of the walls. Other than that, there's a big refrigerator filled with craft beer options, teas, water and juices. Also, quite randomly, you can buy chips like Doritos. The restaurant is well lit (thanks to the big windows!) and they have kind of an industrial decor vibe going on.

Okay, now let's get to the good stuff; the food! I decided to go for the Taipei Bomber sandwich, which is packed with delicious ingredients like Hualien Black Ham, egg salad, dill pickles, mustard, mayonnaise, lettuce and tomato. Tieneke got the Pastrami sandwich, which we've had heard a lot about. This sandwich consists of beef pastrami, mustard, zucchini pickles and provolone cheese. The sandwiches are served on sourdough bread. For sides, we picked Potato Salad and a Pumpkin and Cranberry side dish. To complete our sets, I got an Aquagen sparkling water with my meal, and Tieneke a Bessie Byer peach flavored tea.

As you can see from the pictures, these sandwiches are absolutely humongous! (You do get the option of only ordering half though, but who does that!? Not these South African gals, that's for sure!) That said, we both only managed to eat half of our sandwiches and were barely able to finish the yummy sides. I really enjoyed my sandwich, even though it got quite messy and we both agreed that this would not be the meal to order on a first date where you don't want mustard running down your arms and chin. The ham was especially delicious! Tieneke also thoroughly enjoyed her pastrami order, and we agreed that the meat was even better than we had expected.

If you're on the hunt for a great hot sandwich, paired with a cold drink, we can highly recommend Liquid Bread Co. (They also have a vegetarian option if you were wondering!) It's a nice spot for a group of friends to enjoy some good food and a few beers. We didn't try the craft beers this time but I know that, without a doubt, we'll be back soon!
