Tucked away among tall trees and lush greenery on Yangmingshan is VVG Hideaway, a beautiful bright space that consists of a restaurant and a general goods section with books, home ware and other knickknacks. They accurately named it "Hideaway", because it is quite the trek to get there from Taipei City, and it's barely visible from the road. Nevertheless, on a perfect summer's day last year, Tieneke, Leslie (Taipei Foodie) and I made the journey up Yangmingshan to see this gorgeous space for ourselves and to try out some of their dishes.
Leslie kindly made a reservation for us (absolutely necessary, they are quite busy over the weekends!) and the three of us met at Shilin MRT station to share a taxi there. From the MRT station it was about a 25-minute ride up Yangmingshan. Once we got there we followed a little path surrounded by trees and plants up to the building, which was quite magical and added to the atmosphere of the place.
When I first saw the exterior of the building, a vision of white and green, it literally took my breath away. The sunlight trickled through the trees and brightened up the space, which has floor to ceiling (and ceiling) windows. There are tables outside under the trees, which looks so lovely and serene and the perfect spot to enjoy the fresh cool breeze on the mountain on a hot summer's day. We were seated inside on comfy leather sofas, and literally sat in silence for a few minutes to take in the gorgeous space and all the little details of the decor and interior designs.
After ordering, we took a million photos (the space is just too gorgeous!) and browsed the interesting goodies on display. To be honest, I can't remember what food the girls ordered, but I got a chicken salad and for dessert we got the carrot cake, which was absolutely mouthwatering. The drinks were refreshing and delicious. Enjoy the pics below, and see for yourself why so many people make the journey up the mountain to go to VVG Hideaway.

Even though my main meal was nothing to write home about, the beautiful space absolutely makes it worth the effort to get there. I would go back for the fresh clean air and cool breeze on the mountain, the stunning setting, and for that amazing carrot cake!
