Calling all bookworms! Have I got a treat for you today. Maybe you've heard of VVG Something 好樣本事, a quaint bookstore in Taipei's Daan District, and a stone's throw from Zhongxiao Dunhua MRT station? If you haven't, let me introduce you to this hidden gem, picked by Flavorwire as one of The 20 Most Beautiful Bookstores in the World, with its red doors which opens up to a magical world of books, toys, stationery and other curiosities.
In a quiet alley, and across the street from VVG Bistro, another business from many in the VVG group, you will find this unassuming little bookshop. The shop's exterior is quite mysterious, as it's almost completely covered in greenery, with only the signature red doors peaking through the leaves, marking its entrance. I'm such a sucker for bookstores, as I've been a bookworm since childhood and can spend hours browsing through books, so I was delighted to discover this place a few years ago. VVG Something 好樣本事 is not a regular bookstore though, and you won't find the latest bestselling novels here. They sell a curated collection of magazines, coffee table books, books about fashion, art, food, architecture and travel (and, unlike some other bookstores in Taipei, they carry mostly English books). On top of this, they also sell an interesting selection of traditional toys and stationery, glassware, bags and other knick-knacks.
This is one of those shops where you can easily get lost in time while rummaging through a fascinating collection of unique books and curiosities. The staff is very friendly and don't mind their customers paging through the books and taking their time enjoying what the store has to offer. I highly recommend visiting this bookstore if you're a fellow bibliophile, if you're looking for a unique gift, or if you just happen to be in the neighborhood and in the mood for some book browsing.
