Being born and bred in sunny South Africa, there’s nothing we enjoy more than being outdoors in the sun. Whether we’re having a braai (barbeque) at a friend’s house, working on our tan at the beach or having a picnic in the park; it’s literally our happy place. However, since living in Taiwan we’ve had to become used to the idea of constant rain and crazy, unpredictable weather; in other words, very few opportunities for Summer picnics in the park.
Luckily our friend (and lifesaver!), Leslie (Taipei Foodie), suggested we all go to Yellow Lemon, a dessert bar in Dazhi, offering (wait for it..) indoor picnics! At first I was little confused, I mean, an indoor picnic? What does that even mean? Do I need to take a picnic blanket? But thanks to Italian chef, Andrea Bonaffini, it was all taken care of and we hardly even had to lift a finger (except when grabbing the delicious desserts from the table!) The picnic comes as a set at 600nt per person, including a mix of both sweet and savory desserts.
From the minute we walked into Yellow Lemon, the service was outstanding (some of the best we’ve experienced in Taipei.) Chef Andrea laid out the “grass” and personally scattered his beautiful desserts across the table. From chocolate eclairs, pepper macaroons with king crab, apple pie sandwiches which (literally!) exploded in our mouths, to jam filled madeleines and crème brûlée. He made sure there was a little somethin’ to satisfy every taste bud, and even treated us to another one of his creations; a frozen yogurt rose dessert (which tasted a little bit like heaven, I kid you not!)
I highly recommend Yellow Lemon for their extremely friendly and helpful staff, chef Andrea’s personal service and attention to detail, and the creative and mouth-watering cuisines they have to offer. I had such a fun day with the girls and I can’t wait to go back to try out another one of their famous creations, Yellow-Art. This was definitely one of the most unique, and unexpected, experiences I've had at a cafe in Taipei.
