It's been a while since we've been so excited about discovering a (new to us) cafe! In fact, this cafe near Taipei's touristy Yongkang street has been up and running since 1997; how have we never been here before!? I used to live in the neighborhood, and never even noticed it. In my defense, it is somewhat hidden by luscious green trees and some shrubbery, and kind of resembles the front of someone's house.
This cafe was the perfect setting for our first coffee date since taking a little blogging hiatus. (I had a baby, and Tieneke was in South Africa for four months with her family.) It was a beautiful spring morning, so we of course grabbed a table on their lovely patio.
As you can see from the pictures, the cafe is quite spacious, yet it definitely has a cozy and homey feel. I imagine it would be a lovely spot to come and read a book while enjoying a nice coffee and dessert; it has a relaxed atmosphere, and is surprisingly tranquil for being so close to the bustling Yongkang street and park.
The Green Steps (A.K.A The Green Stairs A.K.A Yongkang Stairs) offers a nice variety of coffees, teas, desserts and some light bites (these light meals are only available from lunchtime). I ordered a hot Hazelnut Latte and Tieneke got the OATLY Latte. We also got the Lemon Tart and the New York Cheesecake. It was absolutely DELICIOUS, and we savored every bite! For a dessert and hot drink combo you pay 280nt, and for a dessert and cold drink combo it's 300. We thought these prices were really great, especially for a cafe near a touristy area. We HIGHLY recommend The Green Steps for their incredibly tasty desserts and good coffee! We LOVE the outdoor patio and the laidback atmosphere. This location is fab, only 5-10 minutes' walk from Dongmen MRT station, and a nice little oasis from the busy surrounding area. We'll be back for sure!
